The plants we encounter in a botanic garden are expressly brought there from all over the world, and then organised and classified in order to compile a collection, which might somehow be representative of all the world's plant species.
Pep Vidal's solo exhibition Botanic Garden elaborates on this idea of gathering and cataloging, However instead of bringing in plant species from other environments, it is the plants that are already present at Halfhouse that will be studied; some of which were there long before Halfhouse, some were taken there, whilst others arrived of their own accord. All of them make up what could be a system; a space of interaction between different elements: a garden.
Botanic Garden is comprised of a series of interventions in the garden, along side other elements already in existence in the house, to work with the idea of the botanical , measurement, systems, interaction, the herbarium, classifcation, gathering and compiling.
